The OM-WAY

Oriental Motor has been in existence for over 100 years. Oriental Motor is located throughout the world providing the highest quality motion control products available. Oriental Motor USA Corp. just celebrated 30 successful years in the United States.

We believe our success is based on our philosophy and fundamental beliefs. We call our philosophy and the way we approach our business the OM-WAY.

Our three fundamental principles:

  1. Keep your promises
  2. Place yourself in the position of others
  3. Do not blame others (Be responsible for what you do.)

These are our most important principles, and these core values have been nurtured and promoted for many years at our company.

Our vision is to sell to the market place on a global scale, which makes our business model very unique. We follow the philosophy that it is better to supply one motor to 1,000 customers rather than to supply 1000 motors to only one customer.

This philosophy has generated communication and teamwork between all divisions and at all levels. This communication extends to our customers where we are connected through our products. We provide over 15,000 different product part numbers that provide our customers a variety of solutions to meet their motion control needs. Our philosophy has also generated first class customer service through internal processes that cater to our customer’s needs from engineering and technical support to prompt delivery of our products.

Oriental Motor believes in providing our customers excellence in two main areas, high quality products and a high standard of delivery.

The OM-WAY is to produce and deliver products free of defects. From the product itself and the systems that manufactured and delivered it, we believe in total quality management. We must do what is expected. Our customers expect quality products and we deliver quality products and services they can depend upon.

The second important area is our high standard of delivery. Customers expect the products to arrive by the specified delivery date. To meet such expectations we use the just-in-time method with the sales and manufacturing divisions working as a team to produce what is necessary, when it is necessary, in the amount necessary.

OM-WAY: “Value people as people”. Oriental Motor believes in providing an environment where a group of people can feel joy and happiness in developing themselves through their work. Therefore, we want all our associates to play a role in building our company in which we help each other to grow and develop.  

Taking on difficult challenges is sometimes necessary for the individual and company to grow. Oriental Motor creates an environment where our associates can take on difficult challenges without fear. We create an environment where every associate can think on his or her own and take initiative, where they are given the opportunity to exercise his or her full ability and feel a sense of accomplishment, and where they can feel a sense of personal growth through their work. 

OM-WAY: “Our Company”. A company is not just a building. A company is the people who are working inside. Oriental Motor company is the people who work for it. Oriental Motor is not a company that is ruled by a dictator nor just run by top management. We create a corporate culture that promotes a positive atmosphere where we are tied together by a sense of camaraderie. This philosophy has been the positive driving force that has led Oriental Motor to what it is today.

OM-WAY “Calling everyone san” (calling everyone by their name). Everyone in Oriental Motor has their roles and responsibilities. Respect for the individual is very important to our corporate culture since it is the contribution of each associate that brings our company success. President, Vice President or National Manager are just the titles for job responsibilities. Addressing each other with their title doesn’t fit Oriental Motor’s philosophy or work atmosphere. When we meet and greet each other we do so by first name.

OM-WAY: Problem solving, STPDS. One of the tools used to solve problems is the STPDS process.

  1. See ------------ Look into the facts
  2. Think --------- Organize the facts
  3. Plan------------ Plan
  4. Do-------------- Carry out the plan
  5. See------------- Verify the result

The main reason this process is used is to prevent problems from occurring multiple times. For example, if we skip the first three processes and proceed directly to the fourth step and implement a solution, the problem will likely occur again. This is tied to Oriental Motor’s belief of total quality management.

OM-WAY: “The facts are at the actual place”. Oriental Motor believes in constant communication between its associates and managers. However, in order to confirm the facts the OM-WAY stipulates to go to the actual place and confirm the situation.

Our environment is rapidly changing. To meet this challenge, Oriental Motor must continue to develop technologically advanced products, and sales and marketing programs that distinguish us from our competitors.  In today’s environment Oriental Motor is committed to speed, challenge and professionalism. And through the principles of the OM-WAY Oriental Motor and its associates will continue to grow and develop together.
