AlphaStep
Closed Loop Step Motor & Driver Packages |
Closed
Loop Reliability
The
closed loop system is ideal for applications
requiring short, quick moves. The
does not lose synchronism even when subjected to
abrupt load fluctuation or acceleration. The rotor position
detection sensor constantly monitors the motor movement. If
synchronism is about to be lost, closed loop control is used, so
there is no need to worry about loss of steps. When the
successive overload is given, outputs an alarm signal. The reliability of
is as high as that of a servo motor.

THERMAL
MANAGEMENT - COOLING FANS
|
Oriental
Motor's cooling fan products incorporate specially designed fan
blades for increased air pressure, increased static pressure, high
airflow and low noise.
Axial flow
fans use a propeller to create a flow of air in the direction of the
axis of rotation. These fans create a large airflow, making
them optimal for overall cooling of internal machinery
components. Oriental Motor's axial flow fans are available in
a wide variety of sizes and voltage characteristics.
The MRS Series high-efficiency, large airflow axial
flow fans are available in mounting bases from 5.51 inches to 9.84
inches and also meet UL, CSA, EN/IEC standards and CE Markings
(LVD). Models are also available with built-in alarm circuits
that can detect fan rotation abnormalities and respond by outputting
alarm signals.
Centrifugal
blowers move air by means of the centrifugal force generated by
rotating a cylindrical runner on which blades have been
arranged. Centrifugal blowers have a small outlet, which
concentrates air in a single direction, and are therefore suitable
for local cooling. They also create large static pressure,
making them optimal for cooling equipment through which air cannot
flow easily and for airflow through ducts.
Cross flow
fans create a wide flow of air using a long cylindrical-shaped
impeller. Air is drawn in along the sides of the runner, flows
along the circumference of the runner, and is blown out laterally,
creating a uniform flow of air. Cross flow fans are used for
cooling circuit boards installed in equipment, air curtains and
other applications. In addition, cross flow fans offer the
advantages of right-angle air flow and rectangular shape which
facilitates installation in corners and saves space. |

Q: I
am an OEM manufacturer making pumps for various industries in various
regions.
We currently use DC motors in our products.
We are having some problems need to address.
1) The pumping speed changes a lot when the input voltage
fluctuates since some regions do not have stable power condition.
2) The pumping speed also changes when the viscosity change due to
the ambient temperature changes.
3) The DC motor makes electrical noise and it interfere other
sensors.
4) The DC motor makes dusts and the customers who are in the clean
environment do not like this.
5) The DC motor gets hot easily.
The safety standard authority requested to put caution label.
A: Some
problems may be solved with AC motor and the speed controller. However, in order to solve all of
the problems, DC Brushless motors such as BX, BLF, BLU, or BLH series are recommended.
The DC Brushless product has precise speed regulation since it is
the closed loop system. For example, the speed
regulation of BX is +/- 0.05 % on the load change, +/- 0.05 % on the
voltage change, and +/- 0.5 % on the temperature change. This will minimize your problem 1)
and 2). The DC Brushless
product also provides flat torque characteristics through the rated
speed. This makes engineers easier to size
motors to the system. The DC
Brushless system uses transistors to switch the motor excitation phases
for the operation while the DC motor uses commutator to switch the
phase. This makes less
electrical noise and solves the problem 3), and the DC Brushless products
mentioned above meet the EMC directive too. Since the ball bearings are the
only physical contact in the DC Brushless system, it does not have the
problem 4) which is caused by the contact of commutator in the DC
motor. The DC Brushless motor
uses permanent rare earth magnets on the rotor which creates higher torque
with less current use in the winding. The DC Brushless system is much
efficient than DC motor. The
motor is structured the rotor inside and the winding outside. This allows better heat transfer
compared to DC motor that has the winding in the rotor. Because of these factors, the DC
Brushless motor usually do not have the heat issue described 5).
The DC Brushless motor systems are also
available with AC input and DC input
controller.
Q: I
see Oriental Motor provides different type of gearheads.
What are the factors should I consider to choose the optimal
gearhead for my application?
A: Generally,
the factors are 1) the permissible torque, 2) the permissible speed, 3)
backlash, 4) the angle transfer error, 5) the gear ratio, 6) the shaft
configuration such as off-set shaft or centered shaft, 7) the shaft
diameter, and 8) the permissible over hung load and the thrust
load.
The
gearhead could be chosen for various system requirements, such as needing
more torque, matching the system inertia, reducing vibration, or reducing
the resolution, or any combinations or etc...
It is important to understand the characteristics of the
gearhead.
