AlphaStep does not lose synchronism, even when subjected to abrupt load fluctuation or acceleration.  A newly developed rotor position detection sensor constantly monitors the motor movement.  If synchronism is about to be lost, closed loop control is used, so there is no need to worry about loss of steps.

The new rotor-position detection sensor detects position information of the rotor, based on change in inductance, as determined by change in the spatial distance between rotor teeth and stator teeth.

The motor will normally run in open loop mode.  If the position deviation of the rotor is ±1.8°, the motor will switch to closed loop mode to prevent the loss of synchronism and proceeds to the proper position.

In addition to preventing missed steps the AlphaStep systems also offer high response, no hunting, no gain tuning and low vibration at low speeds.

Oriental Motor offers a wide range of AC & DC input AlphaStep products.

NEW 5-PHASE MICROSTEP SYSTEM

The CRK series is a motor/driver package consisting of a high-performance 5-phase stepping motor and a compact microstepping driver (offering the Smooth Drive function).  The high-torque type motor together with the high performance geared types open a new realm of DC input 5-phase microstepping packages.

The driver for the CRK series achieves microstepping in a compact, lightweight body.  The new IC allows the driver to provide various functions including:
  • Smooth Drive Function
  • 1-pulse/2-puse input mode switching
  • 25 preset microstep angles

The Smooth Drive function keeps vibration to a minimum and automatically controls the motor's microstepping operation at the same travel and speed as in the full-step mode, without the operator having to change the pulse input settings.

The CRK series comes in four frame sizes from 0.79 in. to 2.36 in., as well as three geared motor types.

The CRK Series is RoHS compliant in addition to conforming to global safety standards for safe worldwide operation.  It is UL-recognized and also bears the CE mark as a proof of conformance to the EMC directives.

High-Torque Type

The high-torque type adopts new technology and torque design.  The motor produces ample torque of approximately 1.3 to 1.5 times the level achieved by a conventional motor.  Providing torque equivalent to a motor of the next larger frame size, the high-torque type allows downsizing of your equipment.  The motor also adopts a connector system for easy installation.

MOTION CONTROL QUESTIONS?  ASK AN ORIENTAL MOTOR ENGINEER

Oriental Motor's Engineering Team is just a click away.  Send your motion control questions to Oriental Motor's engineers and we may publish their response in an upcoming issue of New Motion.

Q: What is the microstepping?

A: Microstepping is a technology that achieves low resonance, low noise operation at extremely low speeds by controlling the flow of electric current fed to the motor coil and thereby dividing the motor's basic step angle into smaller steps.
  • The motor's basic step (0.72°/full step (5-phase)) can be divided into smaller steps ranging from 1/1 to 1/250.  Microstepping thus ensures smooth operation.
  • With the technology for smoothly varying the motor drive current, motor vibration can be minimized for low noise operation.
Each issue, our Engineering Team will answer our readers' motion control questions.  From how to use a stepping motor to proper motor sizing techniques and specific applications, ask an OM engineer and get your answer directly from the source.  Our engineers are dedicated to continuous research and development in motion control technology.  E-mail your motion control question to newsletter(Please be sure to include your e-mail address and contact information so our Engineering Team can follow up on your question.)
