Brushless Motors
| NEW! BLE Series: Brushless Motors |
Introducing the BLE Series, AC input Brushless motor and driver package. Available from 30W up to 120W (up to 600 lb-in), the BLE Series is an ideal solution where constant torque (flat torque curve) is need regardless of changing loads or for demanding speed control or constant speed applications. Select the electromagnetic brake option for vertical or holding applications or with the optional OPX-2A, the BLE Series can set a limit on the output torque (0~200%). Available, cable lengths up to 20m (65.5 ft) or flexible cables options, where constant cable bending is required.
- 100 ~ 4000 r/min
- Parallel or Flat Gear options
- Electromagnetic Brake option
- Torque Limiting Control (with OPX-2A Control Module)

Dealing with Long Cable Lengths & Voltage Drops |
Q: I am considering using a stepping motor for an upcoming application. It is apparent from the initial designs that there may be some issues with the extended cable length between the motor, the PLC/controller, and the stepping motor driver. We will only have DC input voltage available due to a customer requirement. If we keep the driver far away from the motor, my concern is with how the distance will affect the motor since I have read that this will affect the motor's performance. If we do decide to keep the driver close to the motor, I am also concerned about the distance effect on the control signals coming from our PLC which uses a standard high speed open collector transistor output. I have also read that it is not suggested to send this signal longer than 2 meters. Can you offer any insight? Do you offer any suggestions or alternatives?
A: You are correct to be concerned with these factors. With a stepping motor driver, the longer you extend its cable length from the motor, the more the motor torque will decrease. This is due to the fact that the strength of a voltage signal drops as the length of cable increases. In general, we suggest a cable length of no longer than 5 meters for DC input drivers.
Since the motor voltage of a DC input driver is typically much lower than that of an AC input driver, even a small voltage drop can be critical; especially when the motor is operating in the constant voltage region where its pullout torque starts decreasing in its torque-speed curve.
