RK Series0.72° Stepper Motor and Driver Package - RK Series

The RK Series incorporates a 0.72° high resolution stepper motor with an AC input, microstepping driver to achieve guaranteed low vibration and low noise while offering exceptional value and performance. The RK Series offers Smooth Drive, a function that ensures low vibration and low noise independently of the input pulse frequency along with improved current control for improved step angle accuracy.

The RK Series offers a standard motor type, IP65 rated motor type, Harmonic, Planetary and Taper Hobbed geared stepper motors as well as three frame sizes of 1.65 in. (42 mm), 2.36 in. (60 mm) and 3.35 in. (85 mm) [3.54 in. (90 mm)]. Encoder options are also available.

Microstep Drive System

The motor's basic step angle is divided by a maximum of 1/250 without the use of a reduction mechanism or other mechanical means. Sixteen resolution levels are available, enabling fine positioning and further reduction of vibration and noise. A motion sequence of "low-speed transfer > high-speed return" can easily be performed without the need for changing from a microstep pulse frequency to a full-step operation. The RK Series can also be used in full-step operation.

The RK Series can be used with most common power supplies available around the world. They also comply with international standards, ensuring safe operation.

Improved Angle Accuracy

Angle accuracy may decrease during use of microstep drivers, due to the effect of current control. However, the drivers used in the RK Series are designed to ensure that the motor operates at maximum accuracy.

The RK Series, with its high starting frequency, shortens the machine cycle without affecting acceleration/deceleration rates. This produces a significant savings in time for an operation in which the same cycle is repeated thousands of times each day.

Compliance with Safety Standards

The RK Series complies with the UL/CSA and EN standards. (With the RK54* type, only the driver conforms to the CSA standard.) The CE marking certifies compliance with the EMC Directive and Low-Voltage Directive. Additionally, the RK Series conforms to the EMC Directive only through its use of surge arrester. The RK Series doesn't require an external ferrite core or filter in the motor line or power line.

Extended Bearing Life

The life of a motor is affected by its bearing. The RK Series achieves approximately twice the life of a conventional motor by adopting a modified bearing. [Available only with the standard type with a frame size of 2.36 in. (60mm) or 3.35 in. (85mm).]

Flexible Couplings

Motor Cables

This three-piece coupling adopts an aluminum alloy hub and a resin spider. The simple construction ensures that the high torque generated by a gear motor can be transmitted reliably. The proper elasticity of the spider suppresses motor vibration.

Driver Cable

This is a shielded cable equipped with a half-pitch connector at one end of the cable that snaps onto the driver. The other end is laminated lead wires aligned in order at a pitch of 0.05 in. (1.27 mm), which is convenient for insulation displacement connectors.

A terminal block conversion unit connects a driver to a host controller.

EMP Series Controller Dedicated Cable

EMP Cables

One end of the cable is a half-pitch connector that snaps into the driver of the RK Series. The other end of the cable is equipped with the connector for the EMP400 Series controller.

 

 

Motor Extension Cables

Extension Cables

These cables extend the distance between the motor and driver. The motor includes a 2 ft. (600 mm) cable. Use a flexible motor cable if the motor is installed on a moving part or its cable will be flexed.

Motor Cable for Industrial Connector Type Motor (required for Industrial Connector type motors)

Industrial Connector Cable

These motor cables must be used for connection between the industrial connector type motor and the driver. Any industrial connector type motor cannot be driven without these cables.

One end of the cable connects to the metal connector on the motor while the other end connects to the driver. Use a flexible motor cable if the motor is installed on a moving part or its cable will be flexed.

Clean Dampers

Clean DamperMechanical dampers suppress stepper motor vibration and improve high-speed performance. An inertia body and silicon gel are hermetically sealed in a plastic case.

(For use with Double Shaft motors)

 

Controllers

Controllers are devices that output pulse signals needed to operate a stepper motor. Controllers let you make various settings to control your motor and also permit connection with a host programmable controller and sensors or PC. Select a controller that best suits your system.
